From 1910 to 1971 a lot of Aboriginal children were taken by force
from their families. They were called the Stolen Generation
Many of these children were sent to institutions
Doris Pilkington's mother was called
Molly. In 1931, Molly was 14 years old.
She lived with her younger sister Daisy
and her little cousin Gracie. That year,
the three girls were taken from their
community and transported to the Moore
River Native Settlement. It was 1.600
kilometres away from their home. At the
settlement, the girls decided to escape
and began to walk back home. They
followed the rabbit-proof fence along
the Australian desert. Finally Gracie was
captured and sent back to Moore River,
while Molly and Daisy returned to their

1) From 1910 to 1971 a lot of Aboriginal children were taken by force
from their families. They were called the Stolen Generation.
2) Doris Plkington wrote this story. Molly, Daisy and Gracie lived it. Molly is his mother, Daisy his aunt and Garcie his cousin.
